GOAL SETTING POINTERS

I never quite understood the importance of making plans, for just what goal setting is all about; well at least in my estimation.

As I get a little older I now see it and understand it to mean making the necessary preparations, adjustments and budgeting to ensure my survival and that of my offspring.

Truth be told I never used to set new year resolutions or even put pen to paper. like so many others I did not see it as important but as you get older there is a sense of urgency and deep concern that you are somehow responsible for making the necessary plans, executing same plans and ensure that there are contingencies.

There must be something to show for your hard work throughout high school, college/university and the career you fight so hard to maintain.

While I trust God for His provision, protection and promises in my life I also remind myself of Habakkuk 2:2 Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.”

Though this scripture was meant for Habakkuk at the time, we can certainly apply it to our lives today.

HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT POINTERS:

1. Setting GOALS is simply intentionally writing and planning for the visions that you have for your life.

2.Making SMART goals includes planning GOALS that are SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, RELEVANT AND TIME-BOUND. So in planning we are not operating in a vacuum, we think about the what, the why, the how and the when and work to achieve each item on our list as time progresses. {We will look at the SMART system in another blog}

3. Keep several diaries or one major one that will capture your overall plan.

4. Budget and spend wisely.

5. Make goal setting fun by using colors, pictures, artwork and a dash of your personal style. This will motivate you to return and review your plans from time to time.

6. Finally keep a calendar of all your plans so you don’t miss a date and you can also adjust as you go along.
